Sonic Robo Blast 2 Unanswered Questions

Why no Release Dates, why don't they release newer versions sooner, when will the next version be released, I will answer these questions and many more of what's already been asked time and time again, i'll answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability.

Why Sonic Robo Blast 2 has no Release Dates:

Obviously the team of Sonic Team Jr. doesn't announce when a new version of Sonic Robo Blast 2 will be released, although it's not surprising as they never do anyway, this is so it's usually not limited by time, they can release a new version any time they want without any time constraints, but also an alternative reason is that their followers won't know when to expect the new release that some of their followers will check back regularly to keep watch for the new release, this is a way to get more page views throughout the year, i think some of the team are on social media and stuff so they get more social media friends, you follow one of them and then they update you of the new versions that get released.
Does anyone remember the Final Demo end speech stating visit the srb2 website at www.srb2.org for news and updates, i think it was more about self promotion of their game which seems quite obvious now.

Why hasn't the full version of SRB2 been released yet:

The reason is because this is an ongoing fan game series, i'd say during the demo and final demo stages of development they were planning to release a full final version which was referenced in the final demo end speech (Sonic says: this is the last release before the final game comes out), i think because it took them so many years in development that they didn't want to just leave it at that, why spend all those years for one final game, doesn't make much sense to release a full version and be done with it.

Is the SRB2 v2 series the full version:

The're probably more complete versions than the final demos, not all planned levels are in the game yet so no this isn't the full version we so desire, i consider these versions as fuller versions than what was previously released, they haven't mentioned anything of a full version since the final demos so maybe these are currently the full versions being updated at current, they most probably axed the ideal term of full version or final game.

Why don't they release newer versions of SRB2 sooner:

The reason they don't release a new version often is because the programming isn't as easy to make changes to, adding new enemies and features that get added to newer levels and even fixing things that'll be added to every level, they have to make it stable and make sure it works and that there are no major bugs, then throughout the year they try to fix any bugs that are found by fans that is usually for netplay (not always as there are game crashing bugs as well), building the levels is only part of the ball game, they probably make sure the game is compatible on other systems and doesn't have issues, they may also test things like opengl and multiplayer and stuff like that to be sure it all works for the next release.

How come there are no slopes in SRB2:

There are slopes in SRB2 as of this edit, the SRB2 Team did an update or two on v2.1 so that people can edit the game to create mods with slopes without using specialized lua-scripting, it's only been relatively recent that they announced it though so it's only relatively new, i think because some people created these custom lua-scripts for slopes in mods it lead to the creation of slopes for the actual games new versions, SRB2 v2.2 is going to have alot of the levels recreated with these new slopes edited in, so if anyone was wondering if SRB2 has slopes developed into it yet the answer is yes but can only be tested in the mods until SRB2 v2.2 finally gets released.

Why did slopes take so long to develop in SRB2:

The Doom Engine was never developed to create slopes, so for a long time they had to settle with little steps, because the original doom engine wasn't programmed to create slopes they probably had to program it into the game which probably took years before it turned out right, plus i think the doom engine originally rendered 3d via a 2d mapping, everything would draw up according to this 2-dimensional map with the play view trajectory which would simulate the effect of the 3rd-dimension, anyway they improved it to actually be 3d and have been improving things on this engine for a long time to actually play like a Sonic style game with Sonic style features and functions, slopes were either a very low priority or they were fairly challenging to develop and get functioning correctly for a long time, so anyway long story short many years of development have stabilized the game enough to create slopes that function properly.

Will SRB2 ever have a loop de loop:

It seems doubtful that they will ever do a proper loop de loop at least not anytime soon, considering the characters and enemies are sprites it seems unlikely that the camera would come around one properly, the camera would have to lock behind the loop and Sonic would have to become a blue ball or something temporarily for this to work, either this or the sprites would have to be drawn or edited for the loop which seems fairly challenging, not to mention multiplayer that a second player seeing the loop de loop of a character going through that the sprites would have to be drawn or edited at different angles as well, plus it took them a long time to create and perfect slopes and the characters don't appear to change animation on slopes, at least not from what i've seen, optimistically as they finally have slopes that a loop de loop may be in the works, maybe they'll implement a sprite rotation method so that only the front and back sprites would have to be drawn or edited or even as a temporarily locked camera and character ball animation may make the loop de loop alot easier and ultimately possible, for now it's not in their priorities as far as i'm aware and it's not on the horizon anywhere anytime soon, maybe a modder or someone of the team loosely will figure out how to make the loop somehow implemented effectively and it might become possible, but it seems that one may emerge at a later date within later versions of the official game or maybe from mods or a loose lua-script or something, i'm doubting that we'll see one till at least 2018 when v2.2 comes out.

How come they don't use 3D Models in Sonic Robo Blast 2:

Actual character models would change the whole concept of the heavily modified doom engine, most things in the game are in fact sprites and not models and throwing in a 3d model would probably appear out of place and could potentially affect the gameplay without special programming to make it function correctly, the doom engine is a really outdated engine and wasn't designed to put in 3d models and objects so that's why there aren't any major 3d models within the game, enemy movements were designed for sprites and wouldn't look as good as models, anyway changing from sprites to models would make it harder to make modifications and fix compatibility for common operating systems anyway, would you really want to mess up the numbers for future modifications and make it harder for older operating systems to run the game, regardless of all this they intended for the game to be like the older Sonic games like on the Sega Genesis but in 3d and sprites best fit this style and are probably way easier to use and edit this way anyway, the sprites were designed to look traditional to the original Sega Genesis style with the partially colourful and cartoon-ish style.

When will the next version of Sonic Robo Blast 2 be released (v2.2):

As of this article we are currently awaiting v2.2, so the Sonic Robo Blast 2 v2.2 release date is what i'm pre-determining here, they usually release a new version at the beginning of whatever year they choose to release it and seemingly around the month of March with v2.0 first released on the 31st of March 2010 and v2.1 on the 15th of March 2014, so i presume March is the month the've chosen for start of year deadline releases, the average timeframe between all releases is roughly between 3 to 5 years, these v2.x releases usually go around 4-5 years though, v2.1 was released in 2014 and i believe they started development of v2.2 during this same year therefore determining a release between 2017 and 2019, we can go it one step further with the year as i said i believe development on v2.2 started in 2014 and that they wanted to get a start on it for a reason, as Sonic Robo Blast 2 development started in 1998 with the TGF version developed from "March" specifically to July and in 2008 on the 21st of February (very close to March might i add) they released a 10th year anniversary private beta which got leaked by other members of the team (whether purposely meant to be leaked this way was doubtful as those members got banned, although it seemed like a publicity stunt for v2.0 as i believe it was a temporary ban), so i believe the're planning a 20th year anniversary in March 2018.
So from technical research v2.2 will be released in March 2018, March being the usual month for alot of specific releases and 2018 as a 20 Year Anniversary, as for later versions presuming March is the usual month all i can say is that it's probably around a more accurate 4 or 5 years between releases, i presume 5 years difference as they may not be interested in doing full-on development for 3 or 4 years as they may want to have more delayed time to take there time with new releases in future and that they can more accurately keep on track with 30th year or future 10 year anniversaries.
i want to go one last step further and try to take a partially psychic guess at the exact day as the 12th of March 2018, of course if you round out both previous releases you get the 22nd or 23rd of March 2018 but who knows.

When will we see later releases and different versions of SRB2 (Beyond v2.2):

Considering it takes a good couple of years to see a new version, i'd say all we can do is pre-determine when or take psychic guesses at when future versions will be released and what versions we'll see, if you want me to be psychic here then (remember the month of march timeframe and 4-5 year average from the previous question) i reckon we'll see a Version 2.3 in 2023 and then a 30 Year Anniversary Version 3.0 in 2028 which may either see retirement eventually in future decades or may continue on with fans to keep the game alive, notice they are really trying to get levels finished and add certain changes if they can (at least that's what i've noticed), i'd say the're getting on in age and want to get it closer to being finished, either way i've been a long time follower and know that it only takes a moment to check back on their site every now and then, so future versions get released whenever the team releases them, nothing we can do about it.

Will there be a Version 3.0 series of SRB2:

More than likely there will be a Version 3.0 which will probably be a complete-ish version with pretty much all levels that were planned or at least all levels planned at this moment in time, v3 would probably get updated every now and then and may even continue every so many years like the Version 2 series did, either way despite curiousity and open speculation it's better to leave it in wonder and just wait until the years pass and the future versions finally get released.

Thanks for reading, this article is by GreatJustinTheDarkNite (myself pretty much), if you have anything you wish to mention then feel free to contact me, maybe there was something i missed that i didn't mention or something i got wrong or maybe even just small technical mistakes.
